Detective Division

On March 15, 2011, Officer Drew Bishop became the first detective in the department's history. While the department is staffed with many competent and proven investigators in the Patrol Bureau, Detective Bishop is responsible for conducting criminal investigations. Detective Bishop employs a variety of investigative techniques and works with officers from state and local police departments in multiple states to develop leads on cases and resolve area burglaries and housebreaks. Additionally, Detective Bishop is proactive in narcotics investigations involving the sale and distribution of controlled substances.

Detective Bishop has received extensive training at the Rhode Island Bureau of Criminal Identification School hosted by the State Crime Laboratory at the University of Rhode Island, where he has gained extensive hands-on training and experience in crime-scene processing and photography, lifting and enhancing latent (hidden) prints, scene reconstruction and interpretation, and evidence collection and processing.

Detective Bishop is also responsible for handling the prosecutions of felonys and misdemeanors for the department, including matters before the Superior Court, District Court, Family Court, and Traffic Court (Rhode Island Traffic Tribunal).

Detective Bishop can be contacted at the Richmond Police Department at 401-539-8289, or by email.
