NOTE: Effective February 1st, 2026, the transfer station will be CLOSED on Tuesdays

Directions

From Route 138 via Stilson Road: Turn onto Stilson Road (the road between McDonald's and Starbucks), follow the road for .7 miles. At the stop sign, turn right onto Buttonwoods Road. The transfer station is approximately 1/2 mile on the right.

From Route 138 via Carolina Nooseneck Road: At the roundabout, turn onto Carolina Nooseneck Road. Drive 1.7 miles before turning right onto Buttonwoods Road. The transfer station is 1/2 mile on the left.

Usage

Vehicle Placards

The transfer station is for the use of Richmond and Hopkinton residents only. Richmond and Hopkinton residents may obtain a free vehicle placard from the Richmond Town Clerk's Office at Town Hall. Vehicle placards do not expire.

To obtain a vehicle placard, you must:

Own a vehicle registered to an address in either Richmond or Hopkinton
- Residents with leased vehicles can provide two proofs of residency (i.e, car insurance, deed, voter registration, lease, or postmarked mail)
Present the vehicle's current registration to the Town Clerk's Office

Temporary passes from the Town Clerk's Office may be issued for new residents who have not yet registered their vehicle. Hopkinton residents must obtain their temporary pass from the Hopkinton Town Hall.

Note: Lost placards may be replaced for a fee of $5 at the Town Clerk's Office
